Job Description

The Law Library Assistant handles a wide range of library support activities in a highly automated and computerized environment. The responsibilities for this position include: providing assistance to patrons at the Library’s Information Desk, including answering basic reference questions; managing the University’s print management system (PaperCut); participating in Law Library marketing and social media; computer lab management; shelving and stacks maintenance; loose-leaf and microfiche filing; assisting users with microform, scanning , and audiovisual equipment; opening, sorting and distributing library mail.

Other duties include night and/or weekend supervisory responsibilities (one evening per week; two to three Saturdays per semester) which include opening and/or closing the Library building.

The position also entails utilizing the Library’s integrated online system for technical processing duties including cataloging, invoicing, serials check-in and other processing operations.

Additional responsibilities assigned to Law Library Assistants typically include one or more of the following: bindery operations, course reserves processing, microform processing, government documents processing, interlibrary loan/document delivery, processing of added volumes, support activities relating to collection development and acquisitions, editing and updating Library web pages, supporting the Digital Initiatives and Scholarly Communication Specialist in various projects, editing and producing the Law Library’s electronic newsletter.

This position is 29 hours per week.

Requirements

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to work with complex library materials; high degree of flexibility to handle changing priorities and schedules; ability to work both independently and as a team member; strong customer service orientation; willingness to take initiative; well-developed computer skills and familiarity with integrated library systems, preferably Alma; web publishing experience preferred; library experience preferred.
