Hampden-Sydney College is seeking candidates for the position of Technical Services Librarian. This is a 12-month Librarian with Special Faculty Status position. Reporting to the Director of the Library, the Technical Services Librarian will serve as the administrator and main technical lead for Bortz Library’s collection management and discovery systems. The Technical Services Department is responsible for the acquisition and processing of resources in all formats, electronic resources management and licensing, cataloging processes, and the implementation of complementary cataloging rules and metadata schema to aid in discovery for physical and digital content. Responsibilities include integrated library systems administration, managing original and copy cataloging in a variety of formats, acquisitions, serials, and maintaining discovery services, proxy authentication services, and related systems. Also responsible for maintenance of the ILS in coordination with our partner Central Virginia Regional Library. Supervises two full-time staff and indirectly supervises student assistants. Participates with other librarians in providing reference assistance.

Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science (American Library Association accredited) or other related field. Firm understanding of current metadata and cataloging standards and processes. Working knowledge of RDA, MARC bibliographic and authority records, LCSH, and LC Classification. Experience working with OCLC cataloging applications. Demonstrated experience managing an integrated library system, a content management system, or other discovery systems. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with SirsiDynix Symphony and BLUEcloud products. Familiarity with EZproxy as well as remote access and authentication workflows.
