The University Library System is seeking candidates for the position of Electronic Resources Librarian, a faculty librarian position in the ULS Technical Services unit. This position reports to the Head of Library Resource Acquisitions.
General Responsibilities:
The incumbent is responsible for managing the life cycle of electronic resources, including databases, e-books, streaming video, serials, and the like. The incumbent is also responsible for managing serials, including ordering, receiving and maintaining serials in electronic formats; for training, supervising and evaluating 3 full time staff positions; for developing and overseeing assessment strategies and conducting ongoing assessment; and collaborating on collection development initiatives.
Specifically, the incumbent in this position is expected to:
Manage the life cycle of electronic resources, including databases, e-books, streaming video, serials, and the like- Establish relationships with vendors, publishers, and consortia in order to proactively address ordering, access, payment and performance issues
- Takes a lead in training and development of workflow, policies, procedures and documentation for e-resource management processes and systems managed by the unit
Works with colleagues to determine needs and prioritizes those projects for the unit- Coordinates the activities needed to support user access and discovery to e-resources, including advance trouble shooting for patrons and staff. Maintain authentication protocols, specifically the proxy configuration files, for electronic resources. Update and customize interfaces for electronic resource access and discovery
- Work with vendors and the University’s Procurement Department for review and approval of license agreements
- Works closely with the Assessment and Quality Assurance unit, Collection Development area and other colleagues to develop and oversee assessment strategies and conduct ongoing assessment and collaborate on collection development initiatives
- Identifies, evaluates and stays current with emerging trends, resources, practices and standards in electronic resource management, usage statistics, data management, access and discovery to enhance library services
- Research and analyze products and offers, set up product trials, coordinate electronic subscription changes and renewals
Librarians at the University of Pittsburgh are members of the faculty and are expected to demonstrate continuous professional development in addition to performing their specific responsibilities. This expectation includes such activities as participating in and contributing to departmental, library and campus-wide committees or working groups as well as the profession at a regional, national, and/or international level, maintaining a broad awareness of current and emerging issues that affect their particular areas of expertise, participating in relevant publishing and presentation opportunities, and pursuing knowledge of professional trends and developments that can be applied to evolving research, services and collections.
