Bunker Hill Community College seeks a self-motivated, service oriented, full-time Librarian to work as part of the Library and Learning Commons (LLC) and Tutoring and Academic Support Center (TASC), serving students, faculty, staff and community users.

The Student Services Librarian will work with LLC team members and college stakeholders to design physical and virtual library spaces, and access to resources, with a lens on diversity, inclusion, and equitable access. The successful candidate will focus on observing and analyzing patron preference patterns, statistical and usage patterns, qualitative and quantitative data, and emerging trends in higher education. The Student Services Librarian will utilize that information to create recommendations for, as well as participate in the implementation of, library services that meet the academic and informational needs of students in physical and virtual environments. 

Duties and responsibilities include working with all library collections both physical and digital, providing library and instructional support to patrons on the Charlestown and Chelsea campuses, and collaborating with the LLC team to ensure daily operations are successfully implemented.

  • The Student Services Librarian works collaboratively with the LLC team to reimagine and redesign library services and interfaces that focus on inquiry-guided active learning, student engagement, and student-centered pedagogy.
  • The incumbent actively focuses on observing and analyzing patron preference patterns, statistical and usage patterns, qualitative and quantitative data, and emerging trends in higher education.
  • The Student Services Librarian will utilize that information to create recommendations for, as well as participate in the implementation of, library services that meet the academic and informational needs of students in physical and virtual environments.
  • The incumbent will possess demonstrable ability to work independently and collaboratively with people of diverse backgrounds, knowledge of the research process, and familiarity with a wide range of educational technologies and productivity software.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills, and demonstrable organizational and time management skills.
  • The successful candidate will explore new ways of engaging LLC users, as well as advocate and provide leadership and vision to improve awareness of the LLC’s robust services.
  • The successful candidate provides and models excellent customer service; provides reference and research support both in-person and through virtual reference initiatives; thinks critically in analyzing problems and developing resourceful solutions; provides dedicated services to the Charlestown and Chelsea campuses; manages a complex workload, prioritizing tasks and completing work on time with minimum supervision.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop plans that aligns patrons’ perspectives and experiences with the LLC mission, vision, and objectives in support of the college.
  • Actively consults with LLC patrons (end users) to assess their experiences with services and resources, as well as usability challenges and issues they encounter.
  • Create feedback assessment channels and analyze user experience data that assess, identify, and address accessibility needs of library patrons.
  • Collaborate with LLC team and other college departments to promote, encourage, and engage in improving library services and resources.
  • Collaborate with LLC team to create reports and visuals that address patron perspectives and offer solutions for effective and constructive user experiences.
  • Serve as liaison to academic departments, with a focus as the primary liaison to the Chelsea Campus. 
  • Provide reference, instruction, workshops, and instructional sessions as needed in person and in virtual environments.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

  • A Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent. 
  • At least 3 years of related academic library experience associated with student services librarianship or equivalent. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively and inclusively with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students.  
  • Familiarity with current trends in academic library information systems, community colleges, and higher education. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.  
  • Demonstrated expertise in creating and delivering engaging and effective lesson plans for instruction sessions. 
  • Demonstrated expertise in conducting reference consultations and familiarity with academic research reference sources: databases, integrated library systems, and research tools. 
  • Capacity for working enthusiastically, flexibly, and creatively in a student-centered environment 
  • Competency with a wide range of educational technologies and productivity software as well as Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Demonstrable Student Services experience.  
  • Subject specialization in one or more academic disciplines preferred. 
  • Experience with educational technologies and their applications in academic libraries. 
  • Experience with course and learning management systems, such as Blackboard, Moodle, or Canvas. 
  • Experience with Springshare products. Proficiency in Spanish or language other than English. 
  • Experience with outreach and marketing services to students and faculty.
