Access Services supports the Harvard Library mission by delivering a high standard of service; cultivating a welcoming environment that is supportive of academic research and inquiry; stewarding the university collection; and connecting the academic community to the vast array of library resources. We support the teaching and scholarly mission of the University through collaborative partnerships with the community of students, scholars and professionals at Harvard and beyond.
This full-time position reports to the Access Services Manager for Circulation and Reading Room Services at Widener Library and is based in Widener Library. Under general guidance of the Access Services Manager, and in support of the mission of the Harvard Library, this position performs duties of an advanced nature to facilitate access to library collections while maintaining a commitment to excellent service. The Access Coordinator assists the manager in coordinating the operations of reading room services and supports the operations of other services points as needed during assigned hours. Assigned hours are Sundays 12:00pm – 8:00pm, Monday through Thursday. 11-7pm. Work is performed with a high degree of judgment and latitude and requires substantial knowledge of library organization systems and procedures.
Library hours may vary from the formal University calendar. The regular schedule for this position may include work on holidays, and/or during periods of inclement weather during official University closings. Assigned hours may change throughout the year based on the Academic calendar or departmental needs. Requests for time off are subject to approval at the discretion of the department manager based on business needs.
