Makerspace Assistant, Watertown Free Public Library, Watertown, MA

The Watertown Free Public Library is in search of a Makerspace Assistant to work in our off-site makerspace, Hatch. Located in donated commercial space at the Residence at Watertown Square (20 Summer St.), Hatch provides space, tools, materials, and instruction in a variety of maker technologies, crafts, and arts. 

The Makerspace Assistant works under the direction of the Hatch Coordinator. This position is responsible for maintaining the makerspace, operating equipment, completing administrative tasks and assisting Hatch visitors alongside Hatch volunteers.

Required Experience:

In addition to the minimum qualifications (see complete job description), this job is for you if:

  • You are creative and consider yourself a maker
  • You have the experience and savvy to fix mechanical problems on machines like 3D printer and laser cutter
  • You are a self-directed learner and know how to figure things out
  • You like people and enjoy working with them
  • You are responsible and trustworthy
  • You believe in public service and the mission of libraries (and makerspaces run by libraries)

Preferred Experience:

Intermediate to advanced knowledge and skill with 3D printing and electronics.
Those who are bilingual/multilingual or from an immigrant background are strongly encouraged to apply.

Schedule and Wage:

This is a part time position (13 hours) with no benefits. $20/hour. 

The successful candidate is available to work the following schedule: 

  • Thursday 5:30-9 pm
  • Friday 5:30-9 pm
  • Saturday 1-7 pm
