To provide cataloging and collection management services according to library policies. To supervise, coordinate, and manage all interlibrary loan services.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform all functions related to receiving, cataloging, classifying, processing and creating MARC records in the integrated library system for library materials in all formats including reserve material.
  • Responsible for interpreting, implementing and keeping abreast of changes in established local acquisitions and cataloging policies/practices, new software releases of Libraries integrated online system and national cataloging rules and standards.
  • Coordinate ongoing and special projects such as inventory, weeding, shelf reading and shifting of materials on both campuses.
  • Keep abreast of current technologies and developments in librarianship, especially in cataloging, interlibrary loan, and technical services.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and manage all functions related to processing interlibrary loan requests (ILL) for UNE patrons, including verification of citations, location of requested materials, checking in borrowed materials, notifying patrons, updating transaction status, and returning materials.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and manage all functions related to processing and filling ILL requests from other libraries to borrow UNE materials, including verification of citations, digitizing printed materials, processing materials for delivery, updating transaction status, and maintaining ILL patron files on the libraries’ online system.
  • Identify and resolve problems concerning ILL loan policies, procedures, operations, and services. Manage and maintain accurate records for all ILL transactions; maintain and report copyright law compliance records; collect, compile, and report statistics; and prepare other administrative reports.
  • Manage and maintain ILL financial records, authorize payment or billing for interlibrary loan transactions.
  • Supervise and coordinate all functions related to notifying and/or billing patrons regarding overdue or lost interlibrary loan materials.
  • Ensure adherence to the National Interlibrary Loan Code for the US, 1993; the US Copyright Law of 1976, as amended (Title 17, US Code); and the UNE Copyright Policy.
  • Maintain working knowledge of use of ILL system, point person for maintenance and troubleshooting, schedules periodic software updates, liaises with vendor customer service when necessary.
  • Participate in professional activities and organizations, attending conferences, workshops, and training programs.
  • Adapt to cyclical periods of intense work activity, prioritize and manage multiple concurrent tasks.
  • Assist with general library operations and be cross trained in specific areas.
  • Collaborate and communicate regularly with other Library staff via functional and cross-functional teams, sharing leadership responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with UNE faculty, staff and students to plan, coordinate and evaluate services, exchange information, and resolve problems.
  • Keep abreast of new developments and best practices in academic librarianship through professional development activities.
  • Participate in campus-wide projects and represent the library on university committees.
  • Provide exceptional customer service.
  • Serve as library liaison to designated units within the University.
  • Travel between campuses as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (or in process) from an ALA-accredited program plus relevant experience.

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of automated technical services functions, including cataloging, authority control, bibliographic database maintenance, and interlibrary loan.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of RDA, AACR2, MARC formats, Library of Congress, and National Library of Medicine classification schemes, and LC and NLM subject headings.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of integrated library systems, OCLC bibliographic utility, online databases, computer networks, and other computer applications in a library setting.
  • Ability to train, assign, and monitor student assistants in performing specific tasks and responsibilities.
  • Ability to work in various locations throughout the library, to lift or move books, and to sit or stand at a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems and exercise judgement in resolving or referring special or non-routine situations.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team-based management structure, initiate ideas and share information and knowledge to work productively with Library staff.
  • Ability to work independently, plan, organize, prioritize, and complete projects by target dates.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with a diverse academic community.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a high degree of computer literacy.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to cyclical periods of intense work activity, prioritize and manage multiple concurrent tasks.
  • Knowledge of the principles, organization and philosophy of an academic library.
  • Willingness and ability to travel between campuses.
