Description of Department: Penfield Library is a dynamic, innovative, and learning-centered environment serving students, faculty and staff at SUNY Oswego. The Library supports campus curriculum, teaching, and research, with a liaison program that provides information literacy instruction, specialized reference, and collection development in all curricular areas. The Library is an active participant in shared SUNY libraries-wide initiatives. The Library is in a time of change, magnified by the recent pandemic: assessing services, adjusting workflows and roles with a newer library services platform, reexamining our organizational structure, exploring new ways of engaging with faculty and new campus partnerships, and planning for future building renovations.

Penfield Library at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications for Research, Instruction & Outreach Librarian (Senior Assistant Librarian) positions. These are 12-month, full-time positions.

Description of Responsibilities: The Research, Instruction & Outreach Librarian (Senior Assistant Librarian) at Penfield Library will:
- Serve as a core instruction librarian, sharing responsibility for information literacy and assessment of the library instruction program.
- Design teaching materials and learning objects.
- Deliver instruction using best practices for learning, teaching, and information literacy; apply imagination and motivation to create innovative one-shot lesson plans.
- Collaborate closely with faculty, librarians and other university personnel in order to integrate and assess information literacy in a variety of majors.
- Contribute to the development of new library initiatives.
- Serve as liaison to assigned academic departments, with responsibility for subject specialized collection development and instruction.
- Organize library outreach efforts, including events, exhibits, tours, and other in-person and online engagement activities.
- Participate in Research Help Desk rotation for on-site and virtual reference, including some evening and weekend shifts.
- Responsible for mentoring Peer Reference Assistants.
- May supervise students or staff.
- Engage in educational opportunities and work to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion.

Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Librarianship/Information Science from an ALA-accredited program by time of appointment.
- Minimum one year instruction experience.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively adapt to and use new technologies and software.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues.
- Demonstrated interest or engagement with social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion issues, through professional or community experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in an academic library.
- Knowledge of the ACRL Framework or other best practices in pedagogy, particularly in information literacy instruction.
- Knowledge of assessment principles.
- Experience engaging in outreach initiatives that expand, improve, and promote library services.
- Experience with reference service and/or collection development.
