Metadata Librarian – Beltsville, MD

Description:

LAC Group is looking for a Metadata Librarian to support a large Federal Library in Beltsville, MD. This position will support a new centralized platform for the collaborative creation, management and sharing of research protocols and methods. Protocols uploaded into the system need to be enriched with metadata to ensure their findability, access, interoperability, and reuse. The Librarian assigned to the project will create and update guidelines for annotating protocols in a way that maximally utilizes the system’s capabilities and meets the requirements of the research community.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop metadata specification and guidance for protocols entered the system to support findability, access, interoperability and reuse through consistent and descriptive metadata and linkages to other scientific data systems.
  • Help the participating researchers with questions related to work with submission form, publishing options, etc.
  • Under the guidance and in collaboration with the project manager, collect and analyze feedback from researchers to refine existing and document new requirements
  • Develop and deliver presentations and webinars, demonstrating the utility of the protocols.io to the community of ARS scientists and their collaborators.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with non-bibliographic, scientific metadata and associated standards and controlled vocabularies.
  • Experience with open-source data repository and cataloging platforms and metadata-centric technical workflows.
  • Expertise and experience gathering requirements and testing software applications.
  • Experience with user support and outreach, including user demonstration and documentation development
  • Good written and oral communication skills within the context of providing individual and group user support, demonstrations, troubleshooting, and requirements gathering.
