Library & Knowledge Services Intern, Boston, MA

The Brattle Group, a privately held, global economics consulting firm, is seeking a part-time Library & Knowledge Services Intern in our Boston office. The position will be a six-month assignment to start and will report to the Senior Manager of Library & Knowledge Services. The intern will provide general support to the Library & Knowledge Services offerings across the firm with a strong initial focus on knowledge management, cataloging, and documentation.

SOME OF THE DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Knowledge Management(KM) system support under the direction of our KM specialist:
    • Create and populate records in the firm’s project information database (Sage)
    • Perform regular updates to records based on ongoing project work
    • Assist in the development of a consistent taxonomy to be used across the firm’s databases
    • Collaborate with members of the Marketing and Legal teams to fill data gaps and errors in existing records
  • Basic cataloging using the Library’s integrated library system (Soutron)
    • Newly acquired items; books, ebooks, databases.
    • Backlog of licensed articles    
    • Brattle -authored content
  • Documentation of Library Operations and Resources
    • Collaborate with team to update existing user manual
    • Collaborate with the team to evaluate and  implement a workflow tracking system  
    • Update existing Library user guides and develop guides for newly licensed databases
    • Update the Library & Knowledge Services intranet (SharePoint)
  • Ad hoc project research and business development support

THE CANDIDATE

The position requires a quick learner with a keen attention to detail, strong organizational, time management and communication skills, and an interest in knowledge management. The ideal candidate will be an individual who loves to collaborate but also works independently and is able to shift priorities as needed. Other requirements include:

  • Library graduate school student (or similar program) interested in corporate libraries who has completed a reference and cataloging course; knowledge management coursework preferred
  • Experience with an ILS and/or reference management software
  • Familiarity with basic principles, standards, and best practices regarding controlled vocabularies and metadata.
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and experience with SharePoint, or a willingness to learn;
  • Dedicated focus on customer service while exercising good judgment in the handling of confidential information and matters
  • Excellent writing/proofing skills
