The Falmouth Public Library is looking for an enthusiastic and energetic Head of Youth Services & Childrens Librarian. Working with children ages birth through 12, this person plans, organizes and oversees children’s services, including programming, selection of materials, collection management, and children’s reference services. As manager of Youth Services, the position is responsible for all activities of the department and directly supervises and evaluates 5 staff members. Develop and coordinate support services for children and are responsible for outreach to local organizations including the school department. As Department Head, they participate in meetings related to all Library activities.
Workdays are Monday-Thursday, every other Friday or Saturday, and occasional Sunday afternoons from November through April.
The Youth Services department also includes one full-time programmer, 4 part-time assistants (29, 25, 20 and 10.5 hours per week) and a dedicated shelver for 10 hours a week. The library is well-funded from the town with additional funding from 3 local support organizations. Falmouth Public Library has a Teen Librarian, who reports to the Head of Adult Services.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of principles of professional library work, thorough knowledge of children’s literature, and contemporary issues, technology and trends in the library profession. Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution; two years of increasingly responsible professional experience, including supervisory experience. Specialized course work in children’s services.
Special Work Schedule Requirements:
Travel between three library buildings and throughout the community is expected.
