FLSA Status: Exempt = not eligible for overtime

Travel: Less than 10%

Brief Statement of Duties

Provides leadership in overall collection development and management strategy, including oversight of acquisitions budget and collection development policies. Negotiates pricing and licensing agreements related to library collection acquisitions. Oversees collection maintenance, including assessment and weeding projects. Assists in Dublin Core metadata creation. Provides reference services. As a member of the library faculty, the Collection Librarian will participate in collection development and instruction related to assigned academic departments. Faculty are expected to engage in professional development and/or scholarship and service. This is a campus based position.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education: Master’s Degree

Discipline/Degree Area: Library and/or Information Science from ALA-accredited institution or ALA-approved foreign equivalent

Required Minimum Work Experience: Previous library or higher education experience, which could include internships, part-time positions, or comparable experiences

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties

  • Demonstrated knowledge of trends and issues in academic library collection development.
  • Demonstrated experience using data to make decisions.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in financial management and budgeting.
  • Familiarity with publication trends and scholarly publishing issues, including open access publications and open educational resources (OERs).
  • Demonstrated understanding, through experience and/or coursework, of metadata principles and the Dublin Core standard.
  • Demonstrated understanding, through experience and/or coursework, of library reference.
  • Demonstrated understanding, through experience and/or coursework, of teaching.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.

Additional Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience with Alma or another integrated library system.
  • Professional experience providing library reference.
  • Professional experience creating library or archival metadata.
  • Experience teaching at the college/university level.
  • Experience with working with vendors, including negotiating singly and as a member of a group.
