Responsible for overall management of library staff, services, collections, and facilities in support of the mission of the University
Responsibilities:
- Leads library staff in strategic planning and setting priorities that align with the strategic plan of the University
- Implements policy and long-range objectives to reinforce standards of service delivery and ensure excellent service to our community.
- Through regular meetings and other initiatives, cultivates positive environment for library staff.
- Directly supervises the work of library department heads and Research Services/Scholarly Communication Librarians in the area of scholarly communications
- Leads Administrative Team of the library in developing policy, planning projects, and addressing management issues on an ongoing basis
- Provides strong support for staff development, training, and participation in professional organizations
- Oversees the management and assessment of Library collections in all formats
- Act as main contact with vendors for renewals and new subscriptions for databases, ejournals, ebooks, and streaming media.
- Leads the Library’s Collections Committee in the review process of print and electronic resources.
- Prepares annual library budget and oversees the expenditures of funds.
- Based on information received from University administration throughout the year, makes ongoing changes in order to balance the Library budget.
- Works with University committees to promote, coordinate, and advocate for Library service within our community.
- Acts as a liaison between University administration and Library staff.
- Represents the library on designated University committees and encourages staff to participate in relevant University activities and committees
- Compiles statistics for ACRL, IPEDS, University and other reporting bodies to record Library activities and collections.
- Represents the library in the Worcester ARC (Academic and Research Collaborative)
- Works with Art Department faculty and others to schedule and facilitate art exhibits in the d’Alzon Library Art Gallery
- Supervises approximately seven professional and support staff employees in the Library.
- Oversees an operating budget of approximately $ 577,000.00.
- Interacts on a daily basis with students, faculty, administration, staff and vendors.
- Must be willing to contribute actively to the mission of the University as well as show respect for the Catholic and Assumptionist identity of Assumption University.
Qualifications:
- MLS from an ALA-accredited library school; additional advanced degrees preferred;
- Minimum of 5 years experience in a supervisory capacity at an academic library;
- Knowledge of and commitment to providing innovative technology, access to collections, and services for evolving needs
- Record of participation in library professional organizations;
- Proven ability to work collaboratively while demonstrating initiative, resourcefulness, and commitment to providing excellent service;
- Demonstrated knowledge of integrated library management systems, such as OCLC WMS.
Working Conditions
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
- Evening and weekend hours occasionally required.
- No or very limited physical effort required. May occasionally have to lift up to 20 lbs.
- No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
