The Information Science & Technology (IS&T) faculty received an innovation grant, “Creating an infrastructure for innovative research and collaboration: Information Science & Technology Lab” in December 2020 to start a new IS&T Lab that will serve as an IS&T research and collaboration hub, providing infrastructure that will enable further innovative research, collaboration, and funding activities to organically grow. We are looking for a SLIS student (either at Master’s or Doctoral level) with effective technology, research, and communication skills to spearhead the continuing development of the lab with the SLIS IS&T faculty. The IS&T lab assistant will carry out a range of activities related to building, coordinating, and managing the collaborative workspace, virtual lab/website, and facilitating the community engagement activities. Among other things, the student assistant will actively liaise with IS&T faculty members, and attend the IS&T faculty meetings.
The expected time commitment is 7 hours per week with an hourly rate of $16. The duration of the work will be 7 weeks in the Fall 2021 semester and 15 weeks in Spring 2022.
Working with IS&T faculty, the primary responsibilities will include:
- Organizing monthly events (e.g. meetups, talks, student work showcase, research sharing, and brainstorming of ideas), and publicizing them
- Getting regular blog contributions
- Helping write an internal or external grant proposal to continue the lab work further, for the purpose of sustaining the lab beyond the first year of current funding
- Writing the proposal for a virtual fellowship, getting it approved, advertised, and started
- Growing and managing the IS&T Lab website and other virtual spaces (e.g.github, IS&T slack channel https://simmons-ist.slack.com) with research projects and publications of IS&T faculty, student research/activities, research grants, and upcoming activities
