Archives Reference Assistant, Northeastern University, Boston, MA

There are three vacancies for a part-time reference assistant position in the Northeastern University Library’s Archives and Special Collections. The Archives Reference Assistant is responsible for assisting the Reference and Outreach Archivist with front facing reference and instruction tasks. This position is for someone who is welcoming and comfortable working with people. This role works with Greater Boston community members and Northeastern affiliates. Ideally the candidates will be available to work Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Duties may include:

  • Manage reading room and orient visitors on how to use archival resources such as finding aids or digital collections.
  • Provide research support to the Northeastern and Greater Boston community.
  • Digitize and distribute scan requests
  • Retrieve and re-shelve materials for researchers
  • Write social media and blog posts promoting Archives materials or events.
  • Assist with digital exhibits and maintain of WordPress site instances
  • Other duties as assigned, which may include archival processing and accessioning work

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in a graduate archival or history degree program
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Interest in critical librarianship and inclusive and ethical archival practices
  • Commitment to lowering barriers to access and use in archives and special collections
  • Familiarity or comfort with applications and interfaces such as Alma, ArchivesSpace, and WordPress

Salary:
$15 per hour

Hours:
Up to 17 hours per week
