Library Assistant, Assumption University Library, Worcester MA

Assumption University seeks a part-time Library Assistant Fridays, Saturdays, and occasional holidays.  The incumbent:  

Closes the building on Fridays and supervises the building on Saturdays, including opening and closing.  Supervises student assistants including assigning and monitoring work. Models and encourages a strong public service approach.  Oversees collection maintenance activities such as shelving books and shelf-reading.  Processes student employee payroll and maintains library work-study budget.  Assists Technical Services Department in maintaining current periodicals. Responsible for other library tasks as assigned (e.g., interlibrary loan processing).  

Provides services to patrons including circulating books, laptops, and reserve material, registering borrowers and resolving patron issues.  Maintains circulation transaction and borrower databases using the OCLC WMS library system.  Collects other statistics such as periodic building head counts and weekend gate counts. 

Provides assistance to students and other library users in locating Library resources, including both those available in the physical collections and through the Library website.  Refers patrons to Research Services when appropriate. 

Assists in keeping all equipment in working order.  Equipment includes desktop computers, laptops, printers, print management system, scanner, etc. Communicates all problems with equipment to other library staff.

This is an academic year position.  Regular hours are 11am – 7pm, Fridays and Saturdays.  Extended hours during final exams and occasional holiday hours.  The Library Assistant reports to the Head of Public Services.

Qualifications

Completion of some college level coursework or 1-3 years library experience preferred.
Supervisory experience preferred. 
Experience with Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Ability to learn new computer applications, such as OCLC WMS circulation module, OCLC Discovery, ILLiad, Brightspace, study room booking software, social media, Google Docs and Calendar, and other software and equipment required in performance of above accountabilities
