Description:
The Part-time Weekend and Holiday Reference Librarian provides reference and research assistance to the UMass Lowell community and is the primary staff member in the Library on weekends, responsible for supervising Library student workers and contacting maintenance or security when appropriate.
Reporting to the Reference Department, the Part-Time Weekend and Holiday Reference Librarian has the following duties:
Provide reference and research assistance, including database searching, instruction, and citation management via phone, email, Zoom, Ask-a-Librarian, and in-person. Provides information concerning materials that best match users’ interests and needs. Troubleshoot problems related to library equipment such as printers, scanners, workstations, and copiers. Answer questions relating to the group study rooms. Assist with and participate in reference projects. Work cooperatively with circulation staff and provide circulation desk coverage as needed; contact maintenance or security when appropriate. Perform other related duties.
Minimum Qualifications (Required):
- ALA Accredited Master’s degree in Library Science or Library Information Science (MLS/MLIS) and one to three years of related experience
- Knowledge of resources, programs, and services available to libraries with thorough knowledge of reference services
- Ability to project a positive public image and provide superior customer service. Excellent communication skills
- Knowledge of current library and information science principles and practices
- Ability and willingness to uphold the University’s commitment to inclusive excellence in a diverse educational community

This is a part-time, non-benefited, non-unit position. The position is based primarily at Lydon Library at North Campus and the hours are primarily Sundays and holidays 12:30pm to 8pm during the school year.
