How to Apply:
Under general supervision of the Director, this position performs circulation, reserves, and reference duties, and may be responsible for operating the library during weekday evening hours and one weekend day. Some reserves processing and other duties are accomplished during scheduled circulation time, so percentages of time do not completely reflect the time devoted to tasks. Responsible to select, train and lead student employees.
Essential Job Duties:
Reference and Circulation: 65%
- Answer general reference questions using various library reference tools.
- Instruct individual students in use of bibliographic tools and other library resources.
- Refer appropriate queries to library faculty.
- Check materials out and in.
- Calculate fines for overdue materials; determine if non-standard circulation periods are appropriate for individual user’s requests.
- Print paging slips; process materials appropriately for shipping through Courier.
- Record library use statistics.
- Responsible for library operation during evening and weekend open hours.
- Open and close library as required.
- Troubleshoot copier and microform reader/printer problems; solve or refer to reserve technician as needed.
Reserves: 15%
- Manages electronic and physical reserves for the Spokane Academic Library (SAL), including electronic reserves for nursing courses used by 3 regional campus libraries.
- Works closely with faculty and students to streamline and create smooth linkages between library resources, course management systems, and students.
- Troubleshoots reserves-related technology issues.
- Processes reserves and other purchased titles within Alma, including brief bib cataloging.
- Processes donations/gifts-in-kind.
- Collection maintenance, to include ensuring correct location and item information within Alma.
Interlibrary Resource Sharing Assistance: 15%
- Assist with processing interlibrary borrowing and lending requests.
- Analyze and resolve citation problems using complex reference resources.
- Communicate with reciprocating libraries regarding library materials requested.
Other: 5%
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
High school graduation or equivalent and one year of experience in the functional operations of a library or archives. Equivalent education or experience will substitute.
Additional Requirements:
- This position is subject to a pre-employment background check as a condition of employment.
- Position may require working evening and/or weekends.
- Overtime may be required to meet deadlines during peak workload situations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working in a higher education library.
- Experience with automated serials software, integrated library systems.
