Sargent Memorial Library is seeking candidates for a part-time senior library assistant position.
Salary/Hours:
Pay range: $21.45 to $29.57 hourly in 14 steps; non-exempt, non-benefited.
10 hours a week Monday through Thursday, including one evening and 1 or 2 Saturdays a month.
General Description
The senior library assistant reports directly to the library director and must have the ability to work well in a team environment with excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. The main responsibility of the library assistant is to assist patrons either in person or over the phone, and facilitate the circulation of library collections. Senior library assistants are required to provide excellent customer services while following library policies, be detail oriented, have excellent organizational and communication skills, and be able to assist patrons with basic technology issues.
Essential Job Junctions
The main responsibilities of a senior library assistant include, but are not limited to:
- Carry out library opening and closing procedures.
- Perform circulation tasks such as: checking materials in and out, renew items, handle reserves, process interlibrary loans, and register new patrons.
- Provide basic reference services.
- Help patrons locate library materials, and retrieve items for holds.
- Collect fines, copier fees, and donations.
- Notify patrons of overdue materials.
- Provide basic computer troubleshooting.
Minimum Entrance Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalency; proficient with computers and mobile devices; demonstrated attention to detail; excellent communications and public service skills; experience working with different cultures. Applicants must be able to move between the circulation desk and the book shelves, retrieve books and other material, and work continuously through the 4-6 hour shift.
