The Framingham Public Library, a recognized leader in collaborative programming, located 20
miles west of Boston with a 53,000 sq. ft. Downtown Main Library, a 17,000 sq. ft. branch
library, and a Bookmobile, seeks a dynamic and energetic Assistant Head of Technical Services
and Cataloging with the creativity, flexibility, and enthusiasm to join our team in delivering
exceptional library services focused on access and equity.
Essential Functions:

▪ Under the direction of the Head of Technical Services and Cataloging, assists in the training
and supervision of Technical Services employees, pages, and volunteers.
▪ Checks the work of others in the various manual and online systems.
▪ Supervises Technical Services employees and volunteers and coordinates workflow in the
absence of the Head of Technical Services and Cataloging.
▪ Assists Head of Technical Services and Cataloging in answering questions on data entry and
interpretation, cataloging and classification rules and interpretation, and in developing and
implementing network & local bibliographic policy.
▪ Oversees the maintenance of online catalog entries in the library system.
▪ Compiles departmental statistics; assists in preparing departmental reports.
▪ Verifies appropriateness of bibliographic records and edits when necessary in accordance with
AACR2-rev.
▪ Classifies materials; provides subject analysis; determines need for access points to
bibliographic records.
▪ Uses the integrated library system to retrieve, enter, alter, delete, or interpret bibliographic,
item, and acquisitions records.
▪ Under the direction of the Head of Technology and the Emerging Technology Specialist, serves
as the department technology mini-key user.
▪ Performs original cataloging and classification as required.
▪ Assists in coordinating and implementing ongoing materials reclassification, authority control
work, and local database maintenance and clean up.
▪ Generates custom reports to facilitate management of library collections.
▪ Participates in Minuteman Network committees as needed.
▪ Serves at Reference Desk on a regular basis.
▪ May prepare and lead book discussions.
▪ Assists in the selection of library materials for adult users as part of the Collection
Development system.
▪ Performs other duties as required.
