The Town of Billerica seeks qualified applicants for the position of Library Director. The Billerica Public Library is located in the Town’s historic district and its current 40,000 sq. foot building opened in May 2000. The library serves a population of over 43,000 and is a dynamic force in literacy and learning through free and open access to diverse materials, innovative technology and programs that provide cultural and educational experiences, along with a capable and approachable staff to support users.
Internally, the Library Director manages the daily operations of the library and library facility, supervises and mentors a staff of over 20, plans and coordinates short-term and long-term goals, oversees the library’s $1.6 million dollar budget, collaborates with the Board of Library Trustees to set library policy, and serves as liaison between the library and town management.
Externally, the Library Director engages with and represents the library in the community, coordinates with the library’s two fundraising groups (Family Friends of the Billerica Public Library and Billerica Public Library Foundation), and advocates for the library with key stakeholders and decision makers.
Schedule: 37.5 hours Monday-Friday with some evenings and weekends required for meetings and Town activities.
Qualifications
An MLS degree from an institution accredited by the American Library Association and a minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience working in a public library, including experience in management, advocacy, fundraising, community building, and budgeting.
