Position Title: DREAM Lab Digital Pedagogy Specialist
Department/Unit: Digital Scholarship Services
This internship will support the development of the Learn @ the DREAM Lab open digital
pedagogy materials such as written and video tutorials and planning workshops from
determining learning objectives to execution. These workshops will be taught remotely and
synchronously and asynchronously to reach the broadest possible audience.
Learn @ the DREAM Lab materials are developed under Creative Commons licenses and
made openly available for use and reuse by educators and librarians in their own learning
management systems. The goal of building these materials is to scale up digital instruction by
incorporating the do-it-yourself spirit of the DREAM Lab physical space into the virtual realm
and creating bite-sized guides to make common tasks for digital assignments more
accomplishable in virtual and hybrid environments.
The topics of these materials will be determined by the intern and the supervisor to address
gaps in current knowledge and/or coverage within Digital Scholarship Services and in
accordance with their interests, but could include text mining, topic modeling, digital exhibit
development, personal digital archiving, and/or digital storytelling.
The DREAM Lab Digital Pedagogy Specialist will gain several tangible outcomes from
participation in the internship program:
The student will receive financial compensation for their participation.
The student will have hands-on mentorship and experience working in digital libraries
through regular 1-1 meetings with direct supervisor and management.
The intern will receive user evaluation and pedagogy training from UO Libraries experts
through interviews and consultations
The participant will have a project for their portfolio and a CV credit. Program leaders will
work closely with internship participants on crafting the addition to their CV and how best
they may want to highlight the experience and accomplishment in this project.
This assignment will provide a rich developmental opportunity for the Vollstedt Intern for gaining
valuable professional experience in the following areas:
Engaging the intern as an equal partner and colleague within Digital Scholarship
Services’ decision-making processes
Recognize and celebrate the intern’s professional work contributions across the UO
Libraries and broader library and information science networks
Offer one-on-one mentoring and coaching for internship guidance and feedback from a
professional librarian
Develop professional competencies to aid the intern in career readiness
Engage in the practice of bringing the whole person to work and focus on mental and
social well being
Special Requirements (knowledge, skills, abilities, etc.):
Interest in digital librarianship or digital humanities
Knowledge of one or more areas of digital scholarship technologies
Must be able to work independently and take initiative
Openness to learning new technologies
Ability to work remotely
Comments: BIPOC students pursuing a library and information science master’s degree are
encouraged to apply. This position is for 3 academic terms – Fall 2021, Winter 2022, and Spring
2022 at 100 hours per term. The student will work remotely and will need to supply their own laptop.
