The University of Texas Libraries invites applicants for the position of Digital Projects Archivist. This is a grant funded position that is funded for one year and is open to remote applicants. The position provides support to LLILAS Benson Latin American Studies and Collections in the implementation of post-custodial archival initiatives.
Essential duties of this position include:
- Support the implementation of post-custodial projects at partner sites in Brazil, Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Mexico. Build and maintain relationships with post-custodial partners and project stakeholders. Develop workflows and conduct training in best practices for digitization and metadata in support of post-custodial initiatives. Review archival material received from partners and oversee quality control of images and metadata; ingest to the Latin American Digital Initiatives digital repository (https://ladi.lib.utexas.edu/); and preservation workflows.
- Support management of the grant “Cultivating a Post-Custodial Archival Community”, funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Document decision-making, workflows, and processes. Assist with grant writing, statistical tracking, program evaluation, and report writing.
- Strengthen knowledge of archival and digital curation best practices through observation, training, personal skill-building, and professional development. Engage with the UTL and broader professional community through participation in professional committees, informal learning groups, conference presentations, and/or other comparable activities.
- Support the development of digital infrastructure and strategy at the Benson, including accession, quality control, description, ingest, and preservation of digital materials. Work with UT Libraries to provide online access to archival materials. Assist Benson Collection archivists and the LLILAS Benson Digital Scholarship Coordinator with related activities as needed.
