Reports to: Library Director
Hours: Part Time
Education and Experience
• Minimum: High School Diploma; some college education preferred.
*Experience in public library helpful
Skills Needed
• Knowledge of basic office equipment such as telephone, photocopier, and printer
• Knowledge of computer operations such as MS Office, especially MS Word & Excel
• Familiarity with CW/MARS inter-loan system (ILL) is helpful
• Communicates clearly and effectively, orally and in writing.
Job Duties
Reception
• Greets and informs patrons about library services.
• Offers and processes Inter-Library Loans (ILL).
• Represents and promotes library to patrons and to the community at large, assists with special
programs related to library services, workshops, and events
*Receives donated materials and refers them to the Director, refers patrons to Director if there are
memorial or other donations to the Field Memorial Library
Clerical (training provided as needed)
• Able to use CWMars systems for holds, renewals, overdues etc
• Types notes and book cards, files cards in catalog and can locate materials in catalog and on shelves
• Answers the telephone
• Issues library cards.
Circulation
• Performs the full range of circulation desk procedures
• Protects patron privacy in accordance with standard library practice
• Records library usage and circulation; maintains accurate library records.
• Promptly carries out ILL procedures for incoming and outgoing materials
• Monitors overdue materials and communicates with patrons about them, collects fines.
• Handles reference questions
Collection Maintenance and Development
• Shelves books and other materials in the proper place in accordance with the Dewey decimal
system and local practice as established by the director.
• Removes damaged items from shelves.
• Makes suggestions for purchase.
•Performs shelf reading procedures, puts items in order; shifts items on shelves as needed.
• Performs routine cleaning of library materials, removes damaged or mildewed items from shelves
• Maintains periodical collection.
Other
• Performs other duties as assigned by Director
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
• The employee is exposed to book dust, and occasionally to mold and mildew.
• Frequent sitting, standing, stair climbing, reaching, twisting, squatting, and some lifting (up to 40
lbs) are required.
New activities for 2021-22
Assist in “automating” our collection as part of joining CWMars network of libraries, including
applying barcode stickers to all items and indexing that to CWMars database. Use of scanner and
receipt printer, and other related tasks.
Assist in tasks related to FML Perspective on the Pandemic grant funded project. This will include
concert promotion and production, as well as activities related to community engagement in
conversations about Perspective on the Pandemic sponsored by the library.
