As part of the MCC Library team, provides friendly, inclusive customer service to a diverse community of learners. Assists students, faculty and staff by answering questions and teaching patrons to find and access library materials. Checks out print materials and assists with eResources. Proctors course tests and CLEP or licensing exams with integrity and sensitivity. This position shall report to the Director of the Library at MCC.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Provides friendly, validating, inclusive customer service; triaging patrons’ needs and directing them to library or other campus resources or services via MCC tools such as Navigate, SIS, and Canvas. Responsible for closing the Learning Commons.
- Teaches patrons to access and checks out print and digital library materials and course reserves, performs troubleshooting and answers digital literacy questions.
- Proctors exams and tests with attention to detailed instructions; communicates these clearly to students and securely transmits completed exams accurately to faculty.
- Processes requests from faculty and collaborates on the creation of ancillary materials for open education courses.
- Processes inter-library loan requests, makes recommendations for changes in policy or procedure in order to improve the user experience, and maintains statistics.
- Updates circulation statistics and collection, including borrowing, adding and withdrawals.
- Assists with library outreach, to include creating content for social media, library newsletter, and other marketing materials and programs.
- Integrates new technologies into work assignments and makes recommendations for using technologies to improve processes and procedures.
- Contributes to projects that maintain or improve library resources and data.
- Recommends updates to processes and procedures in order to improve system and staff efficiencies and the library users’ experiences.
- Participates in the recruitment and oversight of library student assistants.
- Performs shelf maintenance for the library’s physical collections, including shelving, inventorying, straightening, and displaying of materials.
- Assists in the processing of new materials and the deaccession of weeded materials.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Associate’s degree from a recognized college or technical institute with 16 credits in education, instructional design, technology, or a related field. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience: One year of experience in library support or educational support services. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience serving in a customer-facing role in a diverse community, helping people with technology, and closing a library or place of business required. Experience in higher education preferred. Experience working on a small team with varied and shared work responsibilities Working knowledge of MS Office, Adobe, and/or similar tools.
RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Some knowledge of library and higher ed systems and procedures. Ability to use and explain library resources including online catalogs and research guides. Ability to present ideas effectively both orally and in writing. Excellent attention to detail. Cultural competency and openness to working with people of different abilities, cultural backgrounds, and races. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college’s appointing authority.
