The Holbrook Public Library Board of Trustees in Holbrook, MA are looking for a dynamic candidate to fill the position of the recently vacated Library Director position. Under the direction of the three-member board of trustees, the library director will oversee a staff of 9, including two Assistant Directors. Candidates should have a strong knowledge of facility management, a broad knowledge of municipal practices and policies, and have proper managing skills of members of a collective bargaining unit. Salary: $72,000
Responsibilities may include:
- Directs the operations of all departments of the Holbrook Public Library.
- Prepares the annual departmental budget and presents and defends the budget
before the Trustees, Finance Committee and Town Meetings. - Directs and controls the expenditure of departmental fund allocations within the
constraints of approved budgets. - Confers with Town officials and general public to provide information and to resolve problems and complaints.
- Evaluates and administers library programs.
- Directs the training of library staff in technical and administrative library skills.
- Directs the development and maintenance of the public library’s collection of books, periodicals, audio-visual and all other library materials.
- Directs and participates in personnel such as hiring, termination, assignments, staff
meetings, evaluations and labor relations. - Directs and oversees programming and public relations.
- Represents the Library on regional and state committees and serves as the Town’s
authority on library issues. - Prepares various kinds of statistical reports on finances, circulating stock, computer
usage, and circulation. - Confers with State agencies, other public libraries, corporations and community groups in the development of library programs for the Town and assists in coordinating interlibrary program
efforts. - Provides assistance to patrons in selection of materials and reference information in all areas.
- Assists and instructs patrons with use of technology.
- Supervises all professional, support and volunteer staff.
- Is the primary person responsible for hiring, disciplinary and termination decisions; prepares staff performance evaluations; maintains confidential personnel files.
- Provides instruction in library skills for staff and library users.
- Is responsible for planning, organizing, operating and managing technology driven resources and the automated network system.
- Oversees preventive maintenance, security, back-up and disaster recovery procedures for all staff and public workstations.
- Maintains library website and other related sites.
- Is responsible for long-range planning, financial management, budget preparation, collective bargaining agreement issues and development of recommendations for library policies and procedures.
- Works on cooperative ventures with town-wide groups, keeps informed on trends in the literature and role of department services, takes active role in professional groups and attends workshops and conferences.
- Directs the development, repair and maintenance of the library building and grounds.
- Drafts and recommends policy to the Trustees and plans for the implementation of
public library goals and objectives. - Provides staff support to the Trustees to assist with meetings, prepare reports, and
implement policy decided by the Board. Attends meetings of the Library Board of Trustees. - Performs other related duties as assigned by the Board.
Requirements:
MLS degree required; 3-5 years of direct professional public library experience including
personnel management, fiscal management, program development and building maintenance;
state certification of Librarianship from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
Knowledge of state procurement practices and procedures is desired.
