Youth Services Librarian, Part Time, Newton Free Library, Newton, MA

Newton Free Library’s busy Youth Services Dept is composed of a children’s room and a
tween/teen room, serving birth to age 18 and their caregivers and educators. This position assists
our full-time children’s librarians in providing excellent customer service, programming, reference
assistance, readers advisory and special project work as needed.


This position will be focused on serving our teen and tween patrons, age 10-18 in our vibrant Teen
Room. Interest in serving this age group is required and preference will be given to candidates who
have experience serving this population.


Qualifications: Master of Science in Library Science (MLS) and experience serving tweens and
teens in a library or school preferred. Applicants must possess a wide variety of computer skills,
including familiarity with automated library systems, databases and common programs such as
Word, Excel, etc. Strong skills in customer service, reader’s advisory and library programs
preferred. Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team setting, work positively with
diverse constituency and willingness to work on-call hours.


MLS candidates in their last semester of coursework are encouraged to apply.


Hours: Every other Saturday. Sundays as needed. $25.87 per hour.

Schedule: 10 hours per week, weekend hours.
