Concord, MA (17,000 pop.), is seeking an engaging and visionary leader to serve as the next Director of the Concord Free Public Library. The Director oversees and monitors day-to-day library operations, including budgeting and personnel management. The Director must have an innovative and entrepreneurial mindset and be an ambassador for the library, highlighting its successes and communicating its needs. The Concord Free Public Library is a unique library that, in addition to being the heart of the community, houses a special collections section that attracts historians, archivists, and interested parties from across the globe. The Library is a joint resource of the Town of Concord and the Concord Free Public Library Corporation and is governed in accordance with an operating agreement.
The Town has an FY22 Library budget of $2.33M for staff and operating services funded by the municipal budget. The Corporation typically provides approximately $650K annually for maintenance of buildings, grounds, and special holdings as well as for book purchases and student scholarships. It is an exciting time for the Library as a 23,500-s.f. addition and renovation broke ground in Oct. 2020.
Applicants should have a proven track record as a manager in a library with superlative recommendations and be a supportive and motivational leader to staff. Candidates must be willing to engage with the community and be comfortable being the “face of the library.” Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required along with extensive knowledge of professional library principles, practices, and services. MBLC certification and an MLIS degree are required.
Annual salary: Range to $140K for highly qualified, experienced candidates. EOE.
