The Library Services Associate is a member of the Worcester Academy Library Information Services department under the supervision of the Director of Library Services. This full-time position supports the library program and services and collaborates with faculty, staff, students, and other library personnel to advance the school’s mission and vision in the library.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND KEY OBJECTIVES
● Contribute to a positive library image across the school environment and beyond.
● Assist students, staff, and faculty in the use of library resources to effectively meet their needs and interests.
● Support students in becoming enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users and creators of information.
● Engage in effective student management practices to maintain a productive and respectful learning environment.
● Facilitate access to library space, equipment, and resources through prompt communications and responses to reservation and use requests.
● Assist in the collection development process, including inventory and selection, processing, repair, and deselection of library resources.
● Assist in promoting library tools and services via social media and other online and face-to-face initiatives.
● Assist in the development, promotion, and implementation of special events and programs in the library.
● Perform circulation duties as required.
● Assist in the supervision of additional library support staff, which may include volunteers and work study or community service student assistants.
● Perform other duties as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
● Bachelor’s Degree required
Experience
● 3+ years working with adolescents in a school environment or other structured setting
● Prior experience working in a library preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
● A strong customer service mentality and competence in dealing tactfully and courteously with all library patrons
● Commitment to upholding the confidentiality rights of patrons in a school setting
● A positive attitude and commitment to personal and professional growth
● Competence in academic search strategies and techniques
● Awareness of and ability to work within budgetary guidelines
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
● Ability to support diverse learners with varied abilities
● Demonstrated ability to collaborate on interdisciplinary initiatives and to work as a part of a team
● Flexibility and ability to adapt to changes in library programs and services
● Enthusiasm for and interest in young adult literature
● Proficient with Apple products including, but not limited to, laptops, tablets, apps (preferred)
● Familiar with the use of library management systems such as Follett’s Destiny (preferred)
● Familiar with the use of educational and productivity apps, video production hardware and software, and other educational products (preferred)
● Familiar with copyright laws and the fair use and licensing of intellectual property in a school setting (preferred)
