The MIT Libraries seeks a flexible, productive, and reliable Humanities Associate to assist with several humanities-related projects in the Hayden Library. These tasks will vary, but may include:
- Testing and documenting assigned digital humanities tools for use in instruction sessions, workshops, and/or digital humanities projects.
- Completing research on assigned topics to help a humanities librarian prepare for research consultations and reference questions asked by MIT faculty, students, and staff. The subject areas might include literature, theatre, philosophy, media studies, and/or film.
- Developing lists of books for the humanities librarian to order by reviewing appropriate collection development tools.
This individual will report to Mark Szarko, a humanities librarian.
Qualifications:
Preference will be given to a library and information science graduate student with the following
qualifications:
- Background in a humanities field, with knowledge of research practices and sources in the humanities
- Excellent research skills
- Coursework, experience with, and/or interest in learning more about:
- Digital humanities
- Collection development
- Teaching and learning
Hours: Up to 10 hours per week, Monday-Friday. Hours flexible between 9am-5pm. Remote work possible.
Wage: $15/hour, paid through MITemps
Available: September 20, 2021 through June 30, 2022
