Under the general supervision of the Director of University Archives and Special Collections, the Digital Archivist is primarily responsible for born-digital transfers and processing, web archiving, and the long-term preservation of digital content in the University Archives. The Digital Archivist will work both individually and collaboratively with a team of archivists. Full COVID vaccination is required for all on-campus employment.
Essential Functions
- Leads the acquisition, accessioning, processing, and preservation of born-digital and electronic records in the University Archives
- Reviews, investigates, tests, and evaluates platforms, systems, and tools for facilitating the long-term preservation and management of digital assets in the University Archives
- Creates, documents, and trains Archives staff in procedures for managing and ensuring the authenticity, integrity, and security of born-digital content, including web archives and transfers from external media
- Implements and manages a digital processing workstation for the transfer of born-digital content from external media to a digital processing workflow
- Effectively communicates and advocates for support from ITS, administration, and other campus departments
- Participates in activities shared by all Archives staff, including researcher services and development of unit policies and procedures
- Communicates with colleagues, employees, students, and others in a respectful and clear manner
Requirements
- ALA-accredited Master’s degree
- Minimum of one-year relevant professional experience, preferably with digital records and/or digital preservation platforms, systems, or software
- In-depth knowledge of digital preservation metadata schema such as PREMIS, as well as models like OAIS
- Knowledge of descriptive metadata schema such as EAD and Dublin Core, as well as the content standard DACS
- Demonstrated knowledge of systems and methodologies for born-digital transfers, and digital archival processing, including web archiving applications such as Archive-It
- Demonstrated understanding of current archival theory and practice and/or records management
- Demonstrated planning and time management skills
- Flexible and creative approach to problem-solving
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
