The Olin College Library seeks an energetic, service-oriented, creative colleague to join us in supporting student success and community engagement for a six-month temporary position. Under direction of the Library Director, the Community Engagement Librarian is responsible for helping provide access to e-resources and physical materials, as well as contributing to reference, collection development, and classroom instruction. This position also helps manage our Library of Things and makerspace equipment and assists with organizing library-run or -sponsored programming. In addition to more “traditional” library responsibilities and competencies, we are looking for someone to help us explore the literacies of making, ideating, and co-creating.
General Responsibilities
- Plans, schedules, and implements library programming; coordinates library event spaces, outreach, and engagement activities
- Works closely with library colleagues to ensure that all types of collections are readily discoverable and accessible, online and in the library, in a timely manner
- Provides research assistance and reference help, including leading instruction sessions for information literacy and using library resources
- Fulfills interlibrary loan requests
- Assists users by troubleshooting electronic resource problems
- Develops, promotes, and implements programs to a broad range of community members in support of the library’s mission, vision, and objectives
- Participates in collection development, acquisitions, and weeding processes
- Represents the library at events and committee meetings as needed
- Helps support and co-supervise a peer-training group of students with expert knowledge of specialized library equipment
Minimum Requirements
- MLS/MLIS required, or 5+ years equivalent work experience and documented professional development.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Lift up to 30 lbs.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with A/V production and/or fabrication (screen printing, sewing, fiber arts, etc.)
- Familiarity with and enthusiasm for user-centered design
- Experience managing websites, social media channels, and/or newsletters for other organizations
