Description:
The City of Dover Public Library is seeking an individual to perform professional library work related to library technology & information systems. This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position. $26.26 to $38.09 per hour. Position is open until filled.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Except as specifically noted, the following functions are considered essential to this position. The listed examples may not include all duties found in this class):
- Manage, plan and administer all aspects of the library’s ILS, providing technical expertise, support, and training for the successful operation and development of all automated modules.
- Plan and execute all system hardware and software upgrades, purchases, and replacements, and participate in the selection and installation of any new ILS system.
- Maintain the integrity of the library’s online catalog and its patron database, revising cataloging and circulation procedures as necessary for optimal use of the ILS.
- Run regular reports and create customized reports from data in the library system using SQL.
- Lead and collaborate with five Dovernet public school libraries in troubleshooting ILS issues.
- Track and supervise the Acquisitions budget.
- Supervise the library’s Technical Services Office workflow (Acquisitions & Cataloging).
- Manage and support the library’s population of servers, desktop, handheld computing devices, and related technologies for use by the public. Provide first line support for staff computers.
- Liaise with the City’s IT Department and serve as library representative on the City’s IT Committee.
- Redesign, expand, and maintain the library’s website and content management systems.
- Lead the library in exploring, evaluating, and adopting emergent technology products and solutions which can improve customers’ experience, and/or optimize use of library resources.
- Train staff and patrons in the use of new technologies that facilitate library use and information access.
- Work regular assigned shifts at public service desks, mainly adult circulation.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Systems Administration experience including Active Directory and Group Policies
- Ability to troubleshoot, prioritize, escalate and find technical solutions quickly and effectively, often using online and vendor resources
- Customer service experience
- Experience running an application that utilizes an SQL database, including the ability to write reports in SQL.
- Open source experience helpful
- Website experience including knowledge of CSS.
- Excitement about continually learning and training others in a supportive way
- Ability to test, install, and evaluate hardware and software.
- Experience working with, and supporting, various types of patrons with all ranges of technical expertise.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and oral.
- Demonstrated ability to think critically, analyze problems, and develop and implement creative solutions.
- Evidence of a high degree of initiative and versatility, a customer-service focus, and a desire to master new technologies.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with department heads, employees, and the public and to deal with service problems courteously and tactfully.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: College degree with major in Computer Science, or significant Computer Science training. Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from an American Library Association (ALA accredited college of university preferred. 3-5 years professional experience in either Computer Science or Libraries required.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: The minimum requirements listed above may be satisfied by having any equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
