Internship Summary
Under the guidance of the Librarian & Archivist, the CAM Photo Archives Intern will learn about and work on a wide range of projects related to Museum’s vast collection of archival photographs, from daguerreotypes, to prints, to negatives, to born-digital images. The intern will assist in organizing, processing, and digitizing all formats of photographs. Interns will learn proper care and handling for these historic collections as well as digital preservation for the scanned material. This internship will directly contribute to and work towards a planned exhibition in 2023 showcasing the photography of the Gloucester Daily Time’s staff photographers in tandem with Gloucester’s 400th celebration. The internship aims to provide the candidate with a well-rounded library and archival experience and offers them an opportunity to learn a variety of aspects about the profession.
Exact dates can be mutually agreed upon, but the internship will generally run from mid-September to mid-December (12 weeks) and require a commitment of 12-14 hours per week. Stipend: $15.00/hour. The Cape Ann Museum is located within walking distance of the Gloucester stop on the MBTA’s Newburyport/Rockport commuter line.
Qualifications
- Current graduate level Library & Information Science student
- Ability to commit 12-14 hours per week (Monday-Thursday) working on site at the Museum from mid-September to mid-December (12 weeks)
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Self-motivated with proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable climbing ladders and working in small spaces
- Ability to lift 30 lbs
