Library Assistant I – Reference, Gleason Public Library, Carlisle, MA


The Gleason Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic and customer-service focused
employee to fill a part-time Library Assistant I position.

Primary responsibilities include assisting customers of all ages in the use and selection of
library materials and services; staffing the public service desks, including reference, circulation, and
children’s; and assisting customers with public computer use, research inquiries, and downloadable
resources. Other duties may include assisting with programming and/or its promotion; selecting and
cataloging library materials; and additional special projects as assigned. Full job description available at:

Mondays and Wednesdays, 5-9pm, plus every 4 th Saturday (10am-5pm Sept-Jun, 10am-1pm Jul-Aug).
Additional hours sometimes available due to staff vacation or illness.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of one year of customer service experience required.
Library experience or coursework towards Master’s degree in Library Science from an A.L.A.-accredited
institution is a plus. Must be able to communicate effectively with all members of the public in a courteous
and tactful manner. Computer and research skills required. Familiarity with library services and systems

Salary: $24.36/hour (as of July 1).
