Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California, seeks an energetic, innovative and collaborative University Archivist who will steward LMU’s archival collections, articulating a vision for collecting opportunities that preserve and expand the university’s historical record, the Catholic history of Los Angeles, and other collecting areas that support LMU’s teaching, learning and research.
Loyola Marymount, founded in 1911, is a comprehensive university in the mainstream of American Catholic higher education. Located on the west side of Los Angeles overlooking the Pacific Ocean, LMU is one of the nation’s 28 Jesuit colleges and universities and five Marymount institutions. It serves 6,000 undergraduates and 2,200 graduate students in the Colleges/Schools of Liberal Arts, Science and Engineering, Business Administration, Communication and Fine Arts, Film and Television, Education, and Law. The William H. Hannon Library (http://library.lmu.edu) was opened in 2009 and serves as the intellectual and cultural hub of the university. The Hannon Library was the recipient of the 2021 ACRL Excellence in Academic Libraries Award in the university category.
University Archivist
Reporting to the Head of Archives & Special Collections, the University Archivist will lead the effort to seek and collect evidence of individuals and groups who are underrepresented in LMU’s special collections, amplifying diverse voices and experiences. The University Archivist will engage with LMU faculty, staff, students, and donors through collection building and outreach activities, reference, classroom instruction and exhibitions. This position may supervise interns and students.
