The Coordinator of Library Services – Technical Services provides leadership and is responsible for, but not limited to, supporting the acquisition of resources and creating and managing records that provide bibliographic access to print and digital resources, including databases and open educational resources (OER) used by the Bristol community. The position provides collection development support for the print and online collection, including but not limited to vendor relations, database access via proxy server, and acquisitions. The Coordinator prepares original and copy cataloging records for materials in all formats and oversees the provision of additional copy cataloging and processing support. This position functions as the main technical contact for Bristol’s implementation of the integrated library system through the Higher Education Libraries of Massachusetts (HELM) consortium. Additionally, the position catalogs open educational resources and connects Bristol with the Massachusetts Community Colleges OER Hub and other OER repositories.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage all aspects of cataloging and processing of materials, which may include but is not limited to:
    • Oversee, coordinate, and perform original and copy cataloging using established cataloging standards for library materials in all formats, including but not limited to books, CDs, films, serials, e-books, or other documents.
    • Provide original cataloging for items in special collections, which include the LusoCentro collection on Portuguese and Lusophone cultures and the Holocaust and Genocide Center collections.
    • Oversee and manage physical processing of books and other print materials.
    • Collaborate with the college’s Open Educational Resources (OER) committee to catalog resources used by Bristol faculty and to make Bristol-developed OERs accessible externally.
    • Support Access Services Librarian to catalog and process assistive devices and information technology equipment.
  • Manage all areas of collection development for print and non-print materials; for electronic resources, negotiate and maintain licenses with vendors/publishers/consortia, renewals, database trials, troubleshooting, and technical support for library operations.
    • Monitor collection development and electronic resource fund expenditures; track expenditures against budget allocations; coordinate the acquisitions process.
    • Manage proxy access to databases.
    • Assist in the collection development process by adding or removing materials from the catalog and making recommendations for the inclusion and/or cancellation of databases and print/digital periodicals.
    • Serve as the institutional liaison to organizations such as but not limited to Massachusetts Community Colleges OER Hub, other OER repositories, and the Technical Services Working Group of HELM.
  • Provide institutional support.
    • Serve as the technical point of contact for local integrated library system, currently a Koha implementation through the HELM consortium.  [CL1] [WL2] 
    • Prepare data on library materials and resource use such as the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) survey, and others for external and internal reporting.
    • Provide reference services in a face-to-face and electronic/remote environment as needed.
    • Participate in the development of the budget and policies for the Library Learning Commons.
    • Maintain active participation as a scholar, including familiarity with trends, practices, and resources related to technical services.
    • Hire, supervise, develop, and lead LLC technical services support staff.  Conduct regular performance evaluations to ensure continuous improvement and identify potential opportunities for growth. Work closely with Human Resources to develop staff capabilities and expectations.

  • Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

NOTE: Unless otherwise noted, all required qualifications must be met by date of hire.

  • Minimum of a Master’s degree in Library Science or closely related field.*
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience and/or training involving library operations, reference service, bibliographic instruction, circulation service, copy cataloging and library information systems.*
  • * An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience shall be considered.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with cataloging standards, such as but not limited to Resource Description and Access (RDA), Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules (AACR2), Library of Congress subject Heading policies and classification rules, Library of Congress Authority Files, MARC Records management, and OCLC. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Reliable transportation for travel to and from meetings, trainings, or campus and community locations as required. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Koha ILS (integrated library system), EZProxy, and/or Springshare products.
  • Demonstrated experience with collection development and management.
  • Demonstrated experience with metadata and digital librarianship.
  • Demonstrated project management experience.
  • Familiarity with OER resources.
  • Intermediate reading proficiency in Portuguese.
  • Academic background in Portuguese/Lusophone cultures or in holocaust or genocide studies.
  • Ability to speak a language in addition to English.

SALARY:   $64,615 – $74,077 Labor Grade – 6 – actual salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience and in accordance with the MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
