Description;
The John Curtis Free Library is currently accepting applications for the part-time position of Library Assistant. The successful applicant will perform prompt and friendly service to customers of all ages at the Circulation Desk. Work with the circulation team to handle the constant flow of items returned to the library.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist patrons in the use of library facilities and grounds to ensure safety of all patrons. Includes answering inquiries by phone & in person, provide basic direction, information, & instruction. Charges & discharges books and other material using the library’s computerized circulation system, collect fines for overdue materials & lost book replacement fees, place reserves for museum passes, enter periodicals into online cataloging database. Provides assistance with the use of computers, online catalog, library databases, internet, & copier. Register new patrons, maintain current patron records, issue new or replacement library cards. Process network transfer materials as received, package and prepare for delivery. Provides patrons with basic information referral & services, providing directions or assistance with locating materials for patron. Service is delivered either in person or on the telephone. Checks in new periodical acquisitions & maintains accurate files of periodicals received. Perform all opening/closing procedures as necessary. General duties: delete weeded books as needed, maintain new book shelves, move to permanent location as needed, maintain front book displays, shelve books/shelf read as needed, maintain special event registration sheets, verify new patron registration information, oversees the work of library pages as needed, clean and store DVDs, collect mail, maintain bestseller list. Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
High School Diploma, Associate’s Degree preferred. Clerical or library administrative experience preferred. Shift or team leader experience preferred; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Professional development certificates encouraged. This position is covered under the Hanover Municipal Employees League Class B.
This role is a 20-hour per week, benefitted position. Mornings, afternoons, evenings, and Saturday hours may be anticipated.
