After more than a decade of preparation, fundraising, and community outreach efforts, the Peterborough Town Library staff will reopen the newly renovated and rebuilt library on September 12th. The beautiful new building will feature two levels of service, five meeting rooms, an enclosed youth service area, ADA spaces, an art gallery, and more!

Position Title: Patron Service Assistant

Schedule: Part-time, up to 18 hours, flexible, including evenings and occasional Saturday rotation

Compensation: $13.00 per hour DOE

Benefits: (For consistent schedule 15 hours or more.) Paid holidays and pro-rated vacation time. Strong support to participate in professional development opportunities. 

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under direction of the Director, responsible for maintaining a welcoming, friendly, and safe environment for the public. Assist at the help desk with providing quality customer service to patrons. Helps patrons with circulation of the collection, basic reference, reader’s advisory, referrals, tech help, and more.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS;

  • Acts as the welcoming and friendly face of the library. Prioritizes greeting and helping patrons.
  • Covers help desk as scheduled. Interacts with library patrons, answers phones, assists patrons and callers with routine questions and directs them to appropriate departments or staff.  Explains routine library policies.
  • Processes new library cards, library checkouts, renewals, returns, holds and registrations, utilizing the integrated library system. 
  • Assists patrons wireless printing and technology instruction at public computers.
  • Provides quality customer service to patrons and offers assistance with basic reference, reader’s advisory, program recommendations, community connections, referrals to other resources, and tech instruction.
  • Maintains help desk spreadsheets including museum passes registrations, attendance records, and other statistics.
  • Monitors and maintains orderliness of assigned library shelves and other library collections; collects and moves books and other materials as required.
  • Participates in promoting all library events and services by actively engaging with patrons and referring them to printed and online resources.
  • Assists with opening and closing procedures and tasks. Ensures all safety procedures are followed and building is secure.
  • Assist with meeting room bookings. Stays informed of all events and assists with maintaining rooms, calendars, and staff communication about events.
