The Watertown Free Public Library Access Services Department is looking to add a few new people to work in our busy library. This position is heavy on customer service with most hours worked on the main public service desk checking out items, answering phones, and assisting patrons with general information requests.

The desired candidate must deliver exceptional customer service, attend closely to detail, possess confidence in interpreting and enforcing library policies and procedures, have weekend availability, and enjoy interacting with the general public.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is looking to gain experience in a public library or who would like to work for supplemental income with a flexible schedule. While the schedule is largely based on worker availability, all substitutes are required to work a minimum of one shift a month.

Schedule

This is an on-call position, hours are given as needed. Most shifts are scheduled 2-4 weeks in advance with occasional short notice needs. The most frequently needed shifts are Saturdays from 9-5 and Sundays from 1-5. There are occasional needs for weekday shifts most often from 9 am-1 pm or 6 pm-9 pm. Our current operational hours are still reduced due to covid, but we are gradually extending to pre-covid hours and expect to fully resume our normal hours by mid-summer assuming trends in Massachusetts continue in a positive direction.

Qualifications:  

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Comfort and ease learning and using new software
  • Customer service experience required. Must like and enjoy working with people.

Hourly Rate: $18.00
