The Winthrop Group has an opening for a full-time Archivist to assist in establishing a private archive for a family. This is a salaried contract position through January 2022 in New York State near Dutchess County.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a prioritized work plan in accord with approved goals and objectives
- Arrange, process, and create a searchable finding aid for the archival collection
- Catalog large book collection
- Ensure long-term preservation of artifacts and archival resources in all formats
- Identify items that may be appropriate for digitization
- Assist Digital Archivist in managing digitization projects and ensuring all deliverables meet archival standards
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of archives experience
- Previous work with a range of collection formats, including paper, photographs, audiovisual material, and artifacts
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
- Ability to manage time effectively and balance multiple priorities
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a team and independently
- Creative problem-solving skills
- Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills
- Unwavering commitment to privacy and confidentiality
- Ability to lift boxes weighing up to 40 pounds
Preferred Qualifications
- MLS/MLIS with a concentration in archives or other graduate degree with Certificate in Archival Studies or ACA certification
- Experience with personal papers and/or family archives
- Project management experience
- Background in developing content for online access
- Familiarity with content management and digital asset management systems
Work Environment
The Archivist will work in a private home where collections are located. The individual will work occasionally with another part-time Archivist and must be comfortable working alone much of the time.
