MIT Lincoln Laboratory Knowledge Services, comprised of the Laboratory’s Research Library and Laboratory Archives, invites applications for the position of an ILS Systems Administrator Librarian.  This position oversees all activities involved in the administration and management of our onsite Sirsi Dynix Symphony catalog systems in a complex and dynamic Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC.)  This is an excellent position for a library/information science professional who is experienced with robust library catalogs and who will be committed to creating and improving information delivery services with an eye to the future.

Job Summary

Searching for an experienced library ILS administrator with strong API skills to work with a small team of technical librarians and archives professionals in a research library environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for administering and maintaining our in-house SirsiDynix Symphony catalog system.  This individual will also work with existing team members to maintain the Vufind web interface to the catalog. Additionally, he/she will work with the team to maintain other web applications that together comprise our web presence at Lincoln Laboratory: Drupal, Coral subscriptions and licensing tool, MINISIS digital archives repository, Omeka online exhibits software, and Daminion digital asset management system. All applications are housed locally so Linux server experience will be important. Given the variety of applications in use for our web presence, the normalization and migration of data and metadata between enterprise, library, and archives applications is an ongoing task.  The ability to help troubleshoot and support library and archives specialty applications with other staff will also be a focus for this position.

Qualifications

  • 2-4 years’ progressively responsible experience as a Sirsi Symphony administrator with Sirsi API training.
  • Advanced or terminal degree in information technology, library science, or computer science.
  • Experience working with open source applications common to library and archives settings.
  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills

Demonstrated web application skills:

  • Experience with LAMP stack tools within a highly-secure and proxied setting including some combination of these languages: Perl, SQL , php , XML/XSLT, regex, javascript, basic HTML/CSS
  • Git (or similar) software repository experience for maintaining web application code
  • Knowledge of VUFind or similar catalog web interface
  • Solid grasp of Linux server management basics for upgrades, maintenance, etc.
  • Familiarity with several web applications beyond the ILS: particularly Drupal, Omeka, Coral, Archival repository systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience providing general help and support for end users of Windows systems
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 tools
  • Familiarity with web application design and usability concepts
  • Experience with open source and legacy software and hardware commonly found in libraries & archives
  • Experience with general web application security issues such as SSO and HTTPS
  • MLS from an accredited institution
