The Kingston Community Library is seeking a dynamic librarian who specializes in children’s services to work in our busy Children’s Room. If you have at least two years of library experience working with children birth through teens, knowledge of children’s literature, program experience, including using Zoom, Facebook Live and similar platforms for virtual programming, an MLS and love working with children, this is your chance to join a great team in an innovative public library. This position will be responsible for planning and conducting story times and programs, reader’s advisory and reference services, collection development, cataloging and circulation and reference desk duty in an active children’s room. The children’s room includes one full-time youth librarian and one part-time children’s assistant. This is a permanent 40 hour per week position with benefits and a starting wage: $20-21.80 per hour. The regular schedule includes days, one night per week and 1-2 Saturdays per month. Saturdays 8:30-1pm. We seek a candidate who is flexible as we adapt our services in response to the pandemic. We hope to fill this exciting position as soon as possible.
An incumbent in this position consistently demonstrates:
- Advanced knowledge of the principles and practices of library service functions in a public library setting.
- Working knowledge of children’s literature and children’s programming.
- Working knowledge of computer networks, software and hardware, and databases used in public library operations.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Advanced knowledge of Powerpoint to create programming widgets.
- Ability to deal effectively with Town staff, youth and the public.
- Ability to train staff and public in the use of library computers.
- Ability to develop innovative and interesting youth programs.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and details.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Qualifications: MLS in Library Science with an emphasis on children’s programming. A bachelor’s in Child Development, Education or related field from an accredited college or university may be considered; experience working in a library and working knowledge of library practices and procedures.
Must be able to work at a desk thirty-two (32) to thirty-six (36) inches high, carry heavy armloads of books, use stairs, and reach all shelves with or without the aid of a step-stool.
Full time position with benefits. Some evenings and 1-2 Saturdays per month required.
Salary $40,000-45,500.
Kingston is a historic town in southeastern New Hampshire with a population of approximately 7,500.
