OVERVIEW:

The Research and Reference Librarian is part of a public services team which ensures that students and faculty are able to access and evaluate information and think critically about the knowledge they acquire.  The Librarian is responsible for providing research and reference services to students, faculty, and the community on a rotating night and weekend basis.  The Librarian teaches library instruction and information literacy classes on all disciplines at all levels. The Librarian serves as liaison to one or more academic departments. Concurrent academic rank of Instructor. This is a 12-month, tenure-track position. Reports to the Dean of Library Services.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides in-person research and reference services at the Reference Services Desk, including on the rotating evening and weekend schedules.
  • Participates in providing remote research and reference services via e-mail, chat, Zoom and phone enquiries.
  • Conducts individual consultations with students responding to requests for assistance in person and remotely.
  • Teaches information literacy classes in the Core program and in all disciplines at all levels.
  • Provides workshops to faculty on the purpose and use of professional resources.
  • Creates Research Guides for courses and disciplines.
  • Serves as liaison to one or more departments.
  • Keeps informed of library policies and procedures.
  • Takes advantage of professional development opportunities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Management retains the right to add or change job duties at any time.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

  • BA or BS from an accredited college or university.
  • Master’s degree in library or information science—MLS or MLIS
  • Excellent written, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to professional development.

PREFERRED:

  • Experience in a large public library or academic library in the public service area.
  • Experience teaching students.
