The City of Fitchburg Public Library is seeking a Children’s Librarian. Under the direction of the Public Services Supervisor, the Children’s Librarian is responsible for planning, promoting, and implementing programs, including story times, tours and library instruction; position requires interaction with schools, daycares, homeschoolers and community groups. Additional duties include providing quality reference and homework assistance, handling collection development (material selection, collection maintenance and weeding), as well as reading and reviewing materials selected (and in the collection) to provide first rate advisory service to children and their parents/care-givers for their recreational, school work and information needs. The successful candidate will create, schedule, and moderate programs for children and provide direct customer service to patrons of all ages with a focus on patrons under the age of 12 and their caregivers. The qualifications for this position include a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program including graduate credits in children’s services, with a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in children’s services. Collection Development, management, public relations and marketing experience is required.
The position is 35 hours per week, with a flexible schedule, which includes some evening and rotating Saturday hours. The salary range is $48,308 – $62,088 annually.
