Responsibilities:
The Reference and Electronic Services Librarian is a professional position, receiving guidance and indirect supervision from the Director of the Law Library. The Reference and Electronic Services Librarian teaches one or two sections of the required first year legal research course and may teach advanced legal research. The Reference and Electronic Services Librarian oversees and coordinates research services, including electronic legal research and the faculty liaison program. This librarian also develops and manages the law library web site, and administers the Bloomberg Law, Lexis Advance, and WestlawNext program for the school.
Required Qualifications:
A JD degree from an ABA-accredited law school and an MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited library school are required, along with progressively responsible law library experience. Candidates with 3-5 years of teaching experience are preferred.
The successful candidate must have a thorough knowledge of the American legal system, with general knowledge of foreign and international legal systems, to teach and provide reference and faculty liaison services. Must be highly skilled using and teaching all of the various legal research resources, including print and electronic, for reference and research, liaison work, and instruction, including Bloomberg Law, Lexis Advance, WestlawNext and other resources. Must have the ability to manage and supervise others. Must have a thorough knowledge of the principles of librarianship to provide reference service and to develop, provide access to, and maintain the library collection.
