The Per Diem Substitute Junior Library Assistant will perform tasks related to the daily operations of the Library and Children’s, Circulation, or Young Adult desks to provide a high level of customer service to library patrons. Duties include checking library materials in and out; collecting overdue and lost item fines; assisting patrons with placing holds and reserving museum passes; providing assistance to patrons in locating materials; assisting patrons with printing, copying, and faxing; working to resolve patron account related issues; answering phone inquiries; monitoring groups using the library’s event rooms; and reinforcing library policies as needed. As normal library hours resume, this position will also participate in the regular Saturday rotation (6 – 6.5 hours every 3 – 4 weeks) as well as a Sunday rotation (4.5 hours, frequency to be determined) when Sunday afternoon hours are added to the library schedule.
Per Diem Substitute Junior Library Assistant Qualifications
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to handle office equipment such as a copier.
- Proficiency in using Google products and other Library applications.
- High School Equivalency preferred.
- More than 1 years experience at a library circulation desk preferred.
Hiring Salary: $13.50 hourly
Hours: Varied as this position primarily provides coverage in absence of regularly scheduled staff.
Hopkinton Public Library is currently open on weekdays only, including two evenings.
Post-COVID, hours will expand to include additional evenings as well as Saturdays and Sundays.
Substitutes may be called upon to work during any of the library open hours.
