Essential Job Functions:
The Boston Athenæum seeks a motivated intern for the Technical Services Department who will play an important role in maintaining accurate information relative to the Library’s serials holdings. The ideal candidate will be hard-working, organized, ambitious, and must be currently enrolled in a library science graduate program.
Flexible schedule, about 15 hours per week. Compensation is $14 per hour; paid sick time; free membership concurrent with employment and one year following the date of departure; no other benefits.
Responsibilities:
- Performs serials check-in through the Voyager ILS
- Identifies and claims missing periodical issues
- Maintains organization of back issues of serials
- Prepares and processes serials bindery shipments
- Shelving and shifting of materials as required
- Performs end-processing of new circulation books
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Interacts with members and staff in a professional, friendly manner, fielding inquiries and assisting in locating materials
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Submit to and pass background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment verifications and Department of Motor Vehicles (if applicable)
- Must be currently enrolled in a library science graduate program
- Must be detail oriented and able to work independently
- Must have some flexibility in scheduling
- Must be able to lift forty pounds
