DGI is seeking an experienced science reference librarian to work (in person or remotely) for an academic library in Western Massachusetts. Full-time temporary professional position available January 2021. This is an eight-month assignment, with a 35-hour work week. Compensation: DOE; exceeds CLA minimum salary guidelines for professional positions.
Duties:
- Provide library instruction, reference, and research assistance for a broad range of classes, primarily in the sciences.
- Provide specialized guidance on research methods and resources, both print and electronic, across multiple interfaces of licensed online databases and relevant internet resources, including Web of Science, Science Direct, and IEEE Xplore.
- Develop subject content for library’s website, maintaining the sciences subject resource pages, creating and maintaining class guides, and other web‑based tools and digital information services.
Required qualifications:
- MLS/MSLIS/MLIS (ALA accredited) or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years’ experience in libraries working with academic departments in the sciences.
- Strong commitment to public service;
- Knowledge of current issues and methods of library instruction/information literacy for undergraduate students in the sciences;
- Familiarity with science resources and research;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Demonstrated ability to work flexibly, independently and collaboratively with colleagues and library users in a rapidly changing service-oriented environment.
Preferred experience/background:
Familiarity with academic library databases and interfaces (EBSCO, ProQuest, Gale), science databases, content management systems (LibGuides), Google Suite, and citation management software (RefWorks, Zotero).
