Brandeis University is accepting applications for a Manager of Digital Distinctive Collections. This person will manage strategies for Brandeis’s University Archives and Special Collections materials in the 21st century that transcend collection management and incorporate dynamic activities in the areas of discovery, digital presence, and alliances with faculty, students, and staff across the university, working with both University Archives and Special Collections materials, supervising staff and students in Archives and Special Collections, and working with colleagues in Cataloging and Library Systems.

This person will provide strong cross-departmental project management toward the goals of digitization, digital discovery, and digital distinctive collections and supervise professional staff members, contract/project staff, and students undertaking aspects of digital projects and collections management.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads and provides strong project-management and planning for digitization projects. Plans, prioritizes, and coordinates digitization of Archives and Special Collections materials. Creates workflows and processes, establishes digitize on demand program, contracts with digitization vendors, coordinates metadata creation and ingest. Works with colleagues in Library Systems on born-digital collections acquisitions and management, and digital preservation. Conceives and promotes digital projects.
  • Creates and oversees Primary Sources center for student workers in Archives & Special Collections, with a primary goal of processing collections; students will also assist with such projects as digitization, exhibits, curating digital content, oral histories, etc.
  • Manages Collections Archivist and Outreach and Special Projects Archivist. Creates and promotes digital collections projects.
  • Manages and coordinates grant-funded projects and contract staff related to digitization and processing of collections.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree (MLIS with archives concentration or equivalent) plus 5-8 years related work experience.
  • Management experience, archival processing experience, digital project management experience.
  • Project Management certification preferred.
